Currently, tourism is one of the sectors that is a development priority because it has an important role in national economic development. Data from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy shows that the contribution of tourism to national GDP has continued to increase since 2004. Apart from improving the economy, tourism is also considered to have increased foreign exchange and employment opportunities.
To provide the best service in the field of accommodation to tourists, it is necessary to plan carefully to increase or increase the number of hotel rooms and other accommodation. The length of stay of hotel guests is also an important indicator to find out how interested tourists are in the area they are visiting. The longer tourists stay in an area, it means that the area is attractive to tourists. Hotel room occupancy rates also play an important role as an indicator of a hotel's success in selling its rooms. The higher the occupancy rate means the greater the number of rooms that can be sold.
The needs of tourists and the community in the development of accommodation businesses such as hotel room occupancy rates, number of guests staying, average length of stay of guests, room nights used, and bed occupancy rates in Aceh Jaya Regency are considered important to provide informative, accurate statistical data. and complete. To fulfill this, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) conducts a routine survey called the Hotel Room Occupancy Level Survey (VHTS).
The Hotel Room Occupancy Level Survey (VHTS) is a routine survey conducted every month where the respondents are star hotels and non-star hotels. For star hotels, a census is carried out, meaning that all hotels are recorded or visited by enumerators. Meanwhile, non-star hotels were surveyed. Sampling of non-star hotels was carried out by the Provincial BPS. VHTS is carried out by all Regency/City BPS throughout Indonesia, including BPS Aceh Jaya Regency. In 2024, the number of hotels in Aceh Jaya Regency will be 5 (five), consisting of one star hotel, namely the West Coast Hotel (HPB), and four non-star hotels (Jasmine), namely the Khana Hotel, Wisma Fendi, Arafah Inn and Berdikari Inn. These five hotels became the VHTS sample.
Data collection was carried out by enumerators by bringing the VHTS questionnaire at the beginning of each month to the respondent's hotel. The results of the enumeration are given to the inspection officer at BPS Aceh Jaya Regency, in this case the distribution statistics function who is on duty no later than the 10th of each month. After checking, the next process is VHTS questionnaire entry. The entry process is carried out online via the Fasih application which has been determined by BPS RI. Then the next stage of processing is carried out by BPS RI.
